Layoffs Likely for Workers at Duluth, Minn., Pulp, Paper Mills.

Feb. 21--DULUTH, Minn. -- Stora Enso plans to restructure its Duluth pulp and paper mills, likely laying off employees later this year.

Company officials don't know how many people will be affected, or exactly when the layoffs will occur.

"At this point, we're still in the evaluation process, so there's nothing set," said Carol Davis, director of employee communications for Stora Enso North America.

The plant employs 320 at its paper mill and its companion plant that makes pulp from recycled paper.

Stora and other paper companies have tightened payrolls and closed mills throughout the region, but Stora so far has spared its Duluth plant....
