Congress Gives Florida Universities $123 Million for Research.

Feb. 22--Congress is giving Florida's public universities a record $123 million for research next year, including $8 million for an anti-bioterrorism project and $8 million for research into hydrogen-based energy.

The research money, which comes through special grants approved by Congress, was announced Friday. The grants are in addition to the $1 billion worth of sponsored research that Florida's public universities receive directly through federal agencies such as the National Academy of Sciences.
