Feb. 28--States from Texas to California to, well, all over the country, face enormous Medicaid problems. In the absence of any sort of universal health care, the federal-state program has become a catchall.
Old. Young. Middle class. Poor. Many Americans use Medicaid.
They use it to pay for Aunt Jeanne's nursing home. They use it to pay for Antonio's pediatrician. They use it to pay for Mom's medicines.
While Medicaid holds our health system together, the costs add up. Governor after governor spoke out at the National Governors Association winter conference this week about their Medicaid headaches.
