Organic Foods Producers Retaliate on Proposal.

Mar. 1--The counter-attack by the organic foods industry against a move to weaken the nation's organic standards has so far received the support of 50 U.S. senators, Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman and two major foods companies, Tyson Foods, Inc. and General Mills.
Katherine DiMatteo, executive director of the Washington-based Organic Trade Association, anticipates that bi-partisan opposition will grow next week to a last-minute rider inserted by a Georgia congressman into the $397 billion Appropriations Act that passed Congress last month.
