Data Storage Rivals EMC, Hitachi to Settle Patent Infringement Litigation.

Mar. 5--Market leaders EMC Corp. and Hitachi Ltd. yesterday said they agreed to settle patent infringement litigation, ending one of the sharpest disputes in the competitive data storage business.

Hopkinton-based EMC and its Japanese rival Hitachi also agreed to swap software code that would enable their hardware devices to operate together within the same networks, an important step for an industry that has been slow to develop open standards amid a slowdown in technology spending.
