British Investors Await News of Spending Recovery, Raft of Key Indicators.

Mar. 17--Retailers are set to get a much-needed fillip this week from news that High Street spending recovered last month after January's disastrous slump.

Official retail sales figures for February will be among the raft of key economic data released over the next five days which should give the City a clearer picture of whether the Bank of England will cut interest rates again.

Sales volumes dived 1 percent in January, wiping out all of retailers' Christmas gains. February's figures, published on Thursday, are expected to show a respectable 0.3 percent increase, despite gloomy surveys from the British Retail Consortium and the CBI.
