Mar. 19--VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Electricity rates will increase 5 percent starting April 1, Clark Public Utilities commissioners decided Tuesday.
The average bill for a typical household using 1,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month will increase from $111.10 to $116.80. The commissioners' action also increased commercial and industrial rates by 5 percent.
The increase was prompted by the Bonneville Power Administration's plans to boost wholesale rates by 8 percent starting in April. Clark buys about half its electricity from Bonneville and produces the rest at its natural gas-fired River Road Generating Plant near the Port of Vancouver.
