Florida Senate, House Squabble about Lean Budgets.

Mar. 22--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Contending that his hands are tied by the House, Senate President Jim King said Friday that the no-new-taxes state budget he's proposing fails to meet Florida's needs.

"I'm not saying this is what I want to end up with," King said of the $52-billion-plus spending plan being crafted by the Senate.

He went on to say that the Senate plan is built on $700 million in budget cuts, including the elimination of the state's Medically Needy program for severely ill Floridians.

Such decisions could have dire consequences, King warned.

"There might be some people who die," King said.
