Enzon, NPS Pharmaceuticals Register Plan for Merger with SEC.

Mar. 26--NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc. shareholders are one step away from voting on a controversial $1.6 billion merger with Enzon Pharmaceuticals after the two companies formally registered the proposal.

NPS and Enzon filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission under the temporary name of Momentum Merger Corp. A permanent company name will chosen once the merger proposal passes SEC review, and prior to yet-to-be-scheduled shareholder votes.

David Clark, NPS vice president of operations, said Tuesday that the SEC is expected to review the registration and respond within the next 30 days.
