Air Traffic Declines 10 Percent Overall.

Mar. 27--Air travel has plummeted since just before the start of the war with Iraq, with demand dropping at a pace not seen since the aftermath of the September 2001 terrorist attacks, the Air Transport Association said Wednesday.
Overall, traffic has declined 10 percent, with trans-Atlantic traffic hit the hardest, down 25 percent. The future is even starker, with advance bookings down as much as 40 percent for trans-Atlantic flights and 20 percent domestically -- which could spell trouble for the South Florida economy.
"Some carriers are reporting more cancellations than bookings for the same flight," said ATA Chief Executive James C. May.
