Florida Bill Could Restrict Access to Driver Records.

Apr. 22--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Personal information on the driver records of millions of Florida motorists may soon be harder to obtain.

A Senate committee on Monday unanimously approved a proposal that would make information such as the name, address, date of birth and driver's license number of any motorist available to marketing companies only if the driver gives consent.

Under current law, motorists must contact the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to have their names removed from lists sold to marketers.

Critics have argued that a federal law forbids the state from giving out the information unless the driver specifically gives permission.
