Benefits of Internships Discussed at Roanoke, Va., Meeting.

Apr. 18--During the monthly breakfast meeting of the New Century Technology Council, both Libby Speight, internship coordinator for ECPI Technical College in Roanoke, and Kathy Jordan, Radford University's director of experiential learning and career development, touted internships as valuable recruiting tools for businesses.
Speight said internships provide an extended period to evaluate the performance and fit of a potential employee. "I like to think of an internship as a long interview," said Speight, who added that most of ECPI's interns work for college credit and are unpaid.
