Delta Air Lines to Cut Flights, Lay Off Pilots Due to Travel Industry Downturn.

Apr. 18--Delta Air Lines, facing what it calls the worst financial crisis in its 79-year history, posted a wider first-quarter loss Thursday and said it will eliminate flights and furlough 200 pilots in April and May because of a war-related drop in demand.

The nation's third-largest airline will try to save money by cutting some international and domestic flights and flying smaller planes into and out of its Dallas/Fort Worth hub. It also will defer some aircraft deliveries through the end of the year.
