Las Vegas Computer Inventor Can Sue California Tax Board, Justices Say.

Apr. 24--WASHINGTON--The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled unanimously that a Las Vegas computer inventor may pursue a lawsuit in Nevada against California's tax board and an auditor he claimed trespassed on his property.

The 9-0 decision, which upholds a ruling by the Nevada Supreme Court, rejects California's claim that it should be immune from the lawsuit as a matter of state sovereignty.

Gilbert P. Hyatt sued auditor Sheila Cox and her employer, the California Franchise Tax Board, charging Cox came to his home in 1995 and rummaged through his mail and garbage to obtain evidence against him in a tax dispute.
