NASA Officials Voice Optimism for Future.

Apr. 25--WASHINGTON-As the inquiry into the demise of space shuttle Columbia speeds along, two top NASA officials spoke optimistically of the future Wednesday, saying the agency hopes to return to space within a year.

One of the officials, shuttle program manager Ron Dittemore, won't be around to mark that occasion. At a news briefing, Mr.

Dittemore confirmed reports that he intends to leave NASA, although he said he decided that months before Columbia broke up over Texas on Feb. 1. In fact, he said, he stayed on longer than planned to help the agency weather the deaths of the seven astronauts and make any necessary changes.
