Apr. 25--PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Mayor David N. Cicilline's quest to get cash payments from the city's private universities to support city government has met strenuous opposition from the colleges and a perilous path at the State House.
Exhibit A yesterday was a 1:30 p.m. news conference that Cicilline scheduled outside Van Wickle Gate, the ceremonial main entrance of Brown University.
