Florida Senate Fights to Beef Up Budget.

Apr. 4--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Locked in an increasingly bitter fight with the no-new-taxes House, the Florida Senate made a dramatic plea Thursday for pumping more money into the proposed $52 billion state budget.

Senators outlined plans to spend $1.4 billion more on schools, health services and criminal-justice programs now targeted for deep cuts in both their budget and the one being written by the House.

But senators conceded that Thursday's lavish spending was done solely with make-believe money.
