Apr. 9--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Facing Florida's worst cash crunch in a decade, the Republican-led House and Senate slid into an icy deadlock Tuesday after approving vastly different versions of a $52 billion-plus state budget.

The two sides are so far apart -- and so entrenched -- that many were questioning whether lawmakers could reach a compromise in the session's final scheduled three weeks or else face a costly overtime.

"It has an Alice in Wonderland feel to it," Gov. Jeb Bush said of the deadlock. "The answer, of course, is for the leadership of the House and Senate to talk to one another and develop a strategy to reach consensus and get on with it. And I'm going to help...
