Consumer Confidence Continues to Decline in Albany, N.Y., Region.

Apr. 10--Capital Region consumers remained the most confident in the state during the first quarter, but the gap between this area and the rest of New York continued to shrink, according to the latest Siena Research Institute survey.

The quarterly poll released Wednesday by the institute, an affiliate of Siena College in Loudonville, showed Capital Region consumer confidence dropped 7.4 points from last year's fourth quarter, to 76.9. That figure was 8.3 points above the figure for the state as a whole, but lower than the national total of 80.0 points.

The decline in local confidence in the first quarter followed a similar drop in 2002's final quarter. As...
