Northern Indiana Public Service Company Considers Reopening Gary Power Plant.

Apr. 30--Northern Indiana Public Service Co. is holding out possibility the Mitchell Generating Station in Gary could one day reopen.
NIPSCO is looking at the option of putting the plant back in operation sometime in 2004 if there is sufficient demand in NIPSCO's service area and the plant can be operated economically, according to Larry Graham, a NIPSCO spokesman.
"The decision on whether to restart Mitchell will be purely one of economics: the cost to operate it versus the need for electric power from customers," Graham said.
No regulatory requests relating to reopening the plant have been filed at this time, according to Graham.
