Southeastern Connecticut Pfizer Research Facilities Escape Merger-Related Cuts.

Apr. 1--Pfizer Inc. research facilities in southeastern Connecticut will escape the massive job cuts planned in some other states as the company reorganizes following its merger with Pharmacia.

But at least two units now at Pfizer's Groton research center -- veterinary medicine and human inflammation drugs -- will be moved to Michigan, costing the state 200 to 300 jobs, and possibly more.

Perhaps just as important, however, the reorganization leaves intact southeastern Connecticut's pre-eminent position within Pfizer's mammoth U.S. research effort.
