Pittsburgh-Area Unemployment Rate Rose 6.3 Percent in February.

Apr. 15--The unemployment rate for the six-county Pittsburgh area rose two-tenths of a point in February to 6.3 percent, the highest it's been since August, 1994.
Retailers continued to pare payrolls in February as post-holiday sales ended and winter weather kept shoppers away and construction down, the state Department of Labor & Industry said.
A temporary layoff at Sony's factory in Westmoreland County also helped depress manufacturing, it said. Offsetting some of the losses were slight gains in professional and business service jobs, based on the state's monthly survey of residents.
