Mesa, Ariz., Office Max Stores to Hold Identity-Theft Prevention Day.

Apr. 19--Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States and Arizona ranks No.3 for the highest number of complaints per capita for this crime, according to a 2002 Federal Trade Commission study. The FBI estimates that an identity-theft victim loses an average of $20,000, which can take years to repair on credit reports.

In an effort to prevent identity theft, the National Association for Information Destruction and Office Max are holding the second Personal Information Protection Day.
