Rivals Compete to Build New Hospital in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Apr. 19--BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.--Let the turf battle begin.

Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach and JFK Medical Center in Atlantis submitted rival bids to the state this week to build an 80-bed hospital west of Boynton Beach near the intersection of Boynton Beach Boulevard and Florida's Turnpike.

Although both say a new hospital is needed to meet the area's soaring population growth, the hospitals have different motivations behind their bids to build the first new hospital in Palm Beach County in 20 years, according to documents submitted to the Agency for Health Care Administration.
