Honda Humanoid Robot Makes Debut as Japanese Department Store Clerk.

Apr. 21--TOKYO--ASIMO, a humanoid robot developed by Honda Motor Co., made its debut as a department store clerk for customer services at Takashimaya Co. in Tokyo on Monday.

ASIMO, sent to Takashimaya on a one-year loan contract, lined up with its "colleagues" at an entrance of the department store operator's Shinjuku outlet to welcome customers and provide them with information about store events.

The latest assignment marks a foray into new territory for the robot, which had been loaned to some Japanese companies to handle mainly reception jobs since it was "born" in October 2000.
