Some Peco Energy Customers to Be Transferred to a Different Power Supplier.

May 2--One out of every three Peco residential electricity customers will soon be assigned to a different power supplier, and most will receive a modest discount to sweeten the switch, Pennsylvania regulators said yesterday.

The Public Utility Commission voted 3-2 to approve a plan devised by Philadelphia-based Peco Energy Co., consumer and business advocates, and energy suppliers to transfer the customers beginning this summer.

Under the terms of the state's 1998 settlement with Peco to overhaul how the utility was regulated, Peco was required to auction off customers if 50 percent had not already signed up with competitors by Jan. 1 of this year.
