Orlando, Fla., Council Lets Orange County Have City's Share of Transit Tax.

May 6--The Orlando City Council unanimously approved an agreement with Orange County on Monday that would reserve its share of a proposed sales-tax increase for the county's transportation plan.

This fall, Orange County voters will be asked to approve raising the sales tax by a half cent to pay for transportation.

The agreement allows Orange County Chairman Rich Crotty to move forward with a more than $8 billion plan to improve roads, sidewalks and even create a rail system.

Under the plan negotiated between the city and county, both governments have an equal say in how mass-transit project -- such as commuter- and light-rail systems -- develop....
