Salina, Kan., Kmart Plans Celebration to Mark Emergence from Bankruptcy.

May 6--Kmart store is planning a celebration from 8 to 9 Wednesday morning, marking the big retail chain emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Cake, coffee and soft drinks will be served to employees and customers in the eatery at the store, 400 S. Broadway.
"Kmart's coming out of it early," said Bret Keck, the Salina store manager. "This Kmart's not going anywhere."
The Troy, Mich.-based company entered bankruptcy Jan. 22, 2002, after a poor holiday season.
Despite speculation that the Salina store would be among the 600 stores marked for closing, it survived.
