Honda, Toyota Drop in Quality on J.D. Power and Associates Survey.

May 7--Maybe the Japanese automakers are mortal after all.

Perennial quality champs Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. both slipped in this year's J.D. Power and Associates study of new-car quality.

They did not lose their hold on the top spots among major, multi-brand automakers, but the rare step backward are a breath of hope to Detroit automakers trying to crack through Toyota's and Honda's bulletproof reputation.

General Motors Corp., the highest-ranked domestic automaker, slipped just behind the industry average, which held steady at 133 complaints per 100 vehicles. It was the first time in six years that the industry average did not improve....
