Private-Sector Jobs Offset Public-Sector Losses in Albany, N.Y., Region.

May 8--Unemployment fell in March in the Capital Region, despite a shrinking state and local government work force.
The region's 3.8 percent jobless rate in March was among the lowest of any metro area in the state. And Albany County's 2.9 percent rate was the lowest of any of the state's 62 counties.
While the area lost 1,500 government-sector jobs and about 1,000 manufacturing positions, increases in other categories, including retail, education and professional services, gave the region a record private-sector job count for the month.
