Defense Spending Plan Containing Billions for Connecticut Contractors Advances.

May 16--WASHINGTON--A key House committee Wednesday approved a $400.5 billion Pentagon spending blueprint for 2004 that provides billions of dollars for weapons programs important to Connecticut defense contractors and their workers.

For most programs important to Connecticut, the House Armed Services Committee backed the proposals made in February by the administration and closely mirrored -- at least in the short term -- the amounts approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee last week.

Although the House panel trimmed funding for the F/A-22 Fighter program, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines, it did not cut the number to be purchased next year....
