May 28--COLUMBIA, S.C. -- UnumProvident Corp. officials said Wednesday the search for a new chief executive is on track, and the company's co-chairman lauded the work of its interim CEO who remains a candidate for the top job.

Co-chairman Larry Pugh said at the company's annual meeting that the board is "very pleased with the work accomplished in a short period of time."
