OPINION: Despite Discrimination, Older Work Force Here to Stay.

Jun. 1--Jayson Blair -- who disgraced himself and The New York Times with his plagiarized, falsified, fabricated stories -- excuses his transgressions by saying, "I was black at The New York Times, which is something that hurts you as much as it helps you."

In a New York Observer interview, the journalist says he was assigned to "idiot" editors and, as a result "began to act out."

"Racism" is his excuse.

Without trivializing racism, which remains our national shame, I'd like to tell Jayson there is something worse than being black and 27 in today's America.

He could be black (or white or yellow or red) and 57 and unemployed....
