Congress Takes New Look at Child-Tax Credit.

Jun. 4--WASHINGTON -- Congress returned to Washington Tuesday and immediately began moving to correct what many members saw as a gaping hole in the tax bill it hurriedly passed before vacation.

First, though, politics got in the way.

The problem is the newly expanded child tax credit -- which, it turns out, will not be available to the working poor.

Democrats maintained the lapse in the $350 billion tax cut signed last week by President Bush was a sneaky Republican ploy, and in retaliation began blocking routine legislation from passing. They're threatening to continue that strategy indefinitely.
