Jun. 9--Forget about Jack. Lennar is the house that Leonard built.
And my, how it has grown.
The late Leonard Miller, a Massachusetts native who arrived in Miami in the mid-1950s, used $10,000 to bankroll a home-building business that, by his own admission, he knew little about.
Didn't matter. Miller, who died last year, had correctly sensed that Florida would become the boom state of the second half of the 20th century. And Lennar would boom with it. To date, it has built more than half a million homes.
Stuart Miller, the founder's son, is now chairman. He declined to be interviewed for this article.
