Jun. 12--OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Calling the aerospace industry an "immense" part of Washington's economy, Gov. Gary Locke proposed an immense tax break Monday: about $3 billion for Boeing and its in-state suppliers over the next 20 years.

"We feel comfortable that this is what we must do," Locke said.

Washington is competing with California, Georgia, Texas, Alabama and at least nine other states to land the assembly line for the next-generation airliner, the 7E7. ...
