New York Pet-Store Owners Urge Calm Reaction to Outbreak of Illness.

Jun. 12--Long Island pet store owners and animal advocates urged people not to panic over recent human cases of monkeypox, and most reacted calmly yesterday to the federal government embargo on prairie dog importation and sales.

Because of an outbreak first reported early this week that started in the Midwest through human contact with prairie dogs believed infected by a Gambian rat, the United States yesterday prohibited the sale, distribution and intentional release of prairie dogs or any African rodents.
