Jun. 13--Connecticut got a quick, pointed glimpse of the politics of health care -- and perhaps the 2004 presidential race -- as President Bush and U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman dueled Thursday over Medicare benefits in different parts of the state.
President Bush went first, gliding onto the Connecticut Democrat's home turf with an appearance at New Britain General Hospital and a promise to push for a Medicare drug benefit and a new directive to give seniors easier and quicker access to less-expensive generic drugs.
An hour later, Lieberman quickly seized home-field advantage by addressing his own group of seniors in Stamford -- with his mother by his side.
