Experts Say Boeing Is Too Vital to U.S. to Be Punished.

Jun. 16--The massive consolidation of the defense industry has put the government in a quandary as it investigates whether Boeing Co. broke the law in winning a multibillion-dollar rocket contract.
Some experts say the Defense Department too dependent on Boeing for any serious repercussions to result even if the giant contractor is accused of wrongdoing.
"There are now a couple of 800-pound gorillas in defense, and the Defense Department isn't sure how it can control them. People need to begin giving serious thought to the relationship between government and the industry," said Christopher Hellman, director of the project for military-spending oversight...
