Survey by Manpower Inc. Predicts Hiring Will Be Slow in Third Quarter.

Jun. 17--Hiring probably won't pick up in the third quarter, according to Manpower Inc.'s survey of employer expectations.

The staffing and research firm cautioned that its quarterly Employment Outlook survey, to be released Tuesday, was conducted in April when war in Iraq may have caused companies to be conservative. But the national outlook -- for a net, seasonally adjusted hiring increase of 6 percent -- was the worst Manpower has seen in years.

Dallas-area companies projected a net, nonadjusted 6 percent increase in the July-September period, little changed from the previous quarter.
