Nextel to Be NASCAR's Title Sponsor.

Jun. 18--NASCAR officials have scheduled a news conference for Thursday morning in New York City, where they are expected to announce Nextel as the new title sponsor for the series known as Winston Cup.
Sources confirmed that Nextel is replacing tobacco company R.J. Reynolds as the sponsor for NASCAR's top series, starting next season. RJR, with its Winston cigarette brand, has been the title sponsor of the series since 1971.
RJR signed a five-year contract with NASCAR last year, but RJR officials asked NASCAR in February to try to find a new sponsor. RJR in one of several tobacco companies paying billions of dollars in litigation settlements.
