Agreement on Asbestos Bill Elusive, but U.S. Senate Approves Some Changes.

Jun. 20--WASHINGTON--Unable to bridge key differences over how a national asbestos trust fund would work, key senators Thursday agreed to a series of changes in the proposed legislation as a show of progress.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, agreed to add a permanent ban on the use of asbestos in the United States, and to eliminate a provision that would have re...uired that insurance payments and other benefits be deducted from payouts by the trust fund.
