Jun. 20--SATURN PUSHES CONVENIENCE, BOOSTS POWER: After not offering a single new or significantly redesigned car since its 1990 inception at Spring Hill, Tenn., Saturn has come up with what's surely an industry first: a four-door coupe.
That's right. The front-wheel-drive Ion's unusual features include two rear-hinged half doors behind its standard doors that significantly improve access to the rear. They do not open and shut independently of the regular doors, however.
Similar third doors can be found elsewhere in the industry, and Saturn earlier had a third door on its S-Series coupe.
