Jun. 22--FINDLAY, Ohio--New tires have piled up in Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s warehouses as Americans cautiously watching the sputtering economy delayed buying replacements.
The Findlay company is heating up relationships with Asian tire makers to import the entry-level, small tires consumers are demanding at lower prices than Cooper can charge for U.S.-made e...uivalents.
All its major competitors -- including Akron's Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the nation's largest tire maker -- have Asian plants and, in some cases, joint ventures.
And orders auto parts, the other side of Cooper Tire's business, could be threatened if auto sales remain stagnant...
