Franklin, Mass., Looks into Options on Smoking Ban.

Jun. 22--As the House of Representatives and Governor Mitt Romney debate whether to approve the statewide smoking ban passed by the Senate, Franklin town officials will be watching closely to determine whether to establish a local ban.

Last month, Town Councilor Judith Pond Pfeffer asked the town administrator and town counsel to look into the possibility of crafting an ordinance prohibiting smoking in public places after listening to pleas for a more restrictions from resident Richard Fraser.

Fraser's mother died from cancer of the esophagus caused by smoking. He said he is sick of going to local restaurants and inhaling other people's smoke.
