Relative Generosity of Medicare Drug Relief Depends on Income, Annual Expenses.

Jun. 23--WASHINGTON--Twenty-two cents on the dollar.
That, in broadest terms, is how much the federal government will pay over the next decade for Medicare beneficiaries' prescription drug coverage if bills making their way through Congress become law.
Unless delicate compromises unravel, the Senate and House are likely by the end of the week to pass separate plans for adding a prescription drug benefit to Medicare. The action would be a major step toward enacting the largest expansion in the 38-year history of the federal health program for the elderly.
