Moderate Tanning Maximizes Benefits of Sun Exposure, Minimizes Risks.

Jun. 29--Is tanning safe?
Finding a definitive answer to what seems to be a simple ...uestion can be challenging.
Scientific studies have indicated there is a link between Ultraviolet A light, the type produced by tanning lamps, and malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer.
And agencies including the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urge people to avoid use of tanning beds and sun lamps.
Although some states regulate tanning salons, Pennsylvania does not, and the FDA only regulates the manufacture of sun lamps or bulbs.
