New Round of Cuts, Layoffs Looms Closer at American Airlines.

Jul. 2--American Airlines signalled Tuesday that it is planning to make more, probably painful cuts in its far-flung operations to reduce expenses and move closer to becoming profitable once again.
In a vaguely worded press release, American said it expects to "make tough decisions" about the number and types of routes it will continue to fly and the facilities needed to support the airline's operations.
American will announce "some of our decisions shortly," the release said in a statement attributed to Chief Executive Gerard Arpey.
