Federal Electricity Pricing Policy May Hike Rates for New England Customers.

Jul. 2--New England consumers and businesses could be forced to pay tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars more for electricity this summer because of a new federal pricing policy, according to some state officials and energy market analysts.

With the region typically consuming $5 billion to $7 billion worth of electricity each year, the profits that electric generators could reap ultimately would cause noticeable future utility rate hikes for consumers and businesses, according to Synapse Energy Economics, a Cambridge consulting firm.
