Business Consultant Helps Makeover Once Casual Technology Worker.

Jul. 3--John Harris hadn't bought a suit in years. He was a network engineer, and every day was casual day.
The transformation of John Harris began in late 2001, when, like thousands of other high-tech professionals, he was laid off. A few months later, he found himself in the clothing department of J.C. Penney, accompanied by Lauren Mackler, founder of Lauren Mackler & Associates, an executive coaching service in Newton.
If he wanted to succeed as a high-tech consultant, he needed a wardrobe for the corporate world, Mackler told Harris. Her advice is borne out by employers: Companies that once had little interest in the way tech workers communicated are now...
